New and Noteworthy: VMware Cloud on AWS Outposts Enters Beta – At AWS re:Invent 2019, VMware is announcing the VMware Cloud on AWS Outposts Beta program. We are begining the process for Beta nominations, so if you have an interest in expanding your AWS capabilities to your on-premises datacenter, definitely reach out to your solutions engineer ASAP. For those unfamiliar with the solution, VMware Cloud on AWS Outposts is a jointly engineered on-premises as-a-service offering, powered by VMware Cloud Foundation. It integrates our Software-Defined Data Center software that runs on next-generation, dedicated, elastic Amazon EC2 bare-metal infrastructure, delivered on-premises with optimized access to local and remote AWS cloud services.
As we put VMworld and its many exciting announcements in our rearview mirror, it’s time to focus on spreading the news for those who were unable to attend, and diving deeper into the technologies that were discussed during the big event. For many of you, your local account team will bring a lot of that messaging to you directly, but another way that VMware does this is through our local and online vForum events.
This year, these events will take place on October 16th. vForum is a great way to engage with technical experts and executives that you may not be able to meet with during your day-to-day dealings, network with other professionals in your geography, and gain additional insight into VMware’s strategy as we move into a container and cloud-centric world. Please read on to learn more about how you can participate both locally and online.

New and Noteworthy: Oracle and VMware Partner to Support Hybrid Cloud – VMware and Oracle announced a partnership this week, which will run VMware’s Cloud Foundation software in their public cloud computing environment. This offering will be unique as Oracle will provide technical support for its software running on VMware, covering both Oracle-certified cloud environments and customers’ on-premises data centers.
This will allow companies to host their databases in Oracle’s cloud while still maintaining adjacency to their mission-critical workloads that depend on said databases, ensuring maximum performance.
The companies said the service is expected to go live in the first half of 2020.

In the general session we had some nuts and bolts discussions and demos of the topics that Pat covered yesterday. We discussed the cloud infrastructure required to deliver our modern applications and how VMware delivers that infrastructure at all levels. We wrapped up with some light Q&A by Olympic medal winning skier Lindsay Vaughn and hall of fame quarterback Steve Young, delivered by VMware COO Sanjay Poonen.
The general session was hosted by Ray O’Farrell, VMware’s recently former CTO and now EVP leading VMware’s expanded Cloud-Native Apps business unit. Ray broke down in depth how we manage this new complex, multi-cloud infrastructure that is the future of the digital, connected word.
He broke it down into four categories:
Build and Run
Connect and Protect
You’ll have to watch the general session to get the details on each of these steps to properly manage a multi-cloud, fully digital, app driven infrastructure!
Key Product Announcements:
NSX-T 2.5 was announced for future release today, with tons of new features.
You can watch the General Session replay of today’s and yesterday’s sessions here. In addition, VMworld breakout session playbacks have been posted. If you missed a breakout session or couldn’t attend VMworld this year, you can still listen to the experts.
